SEVEN STAR PRAYING MANTIS KUNG FU

A traditional Chinese martial art

At Quest Martial Arts, students learn Seven Star Praying Mantis style Kung Fu, a traditional Chinese martial arts. Developed 350 years ago, this style of Kung Fu is known for its speed and continuing attacks – much like the aggressive approach of the praying mantis insect. With an emphasis on short power movements, the praying mantis style does not demand the physical strength that other styles require, making it a perfect defense for people of any stature.

In the pursuit of a black belt, students learn various fighting techniques that develop physical strength, coordination and balance. Additionally, students learn goal setting, discipline and respect, which lead to self-confidence and rock-solid focus, traits that will set them apart for a lifetime.

Seven Star Praying Mantis Kung Fu is relatively rare and not widely taught in the United States. Quest founder, Sifu Andre Johnson, is one of only a few master-level instructors who teach the praying mantis style. He’s pursued martial arts since he was a teen and trained under renowned Grandmaster Raymond Fogg, the founder of the U.S. Kung Fu Exchange Federation, eventually attaining 10th Generation Disciple ranking. Sifu Johnson has been influential in promoting Seven Star Praying Mantis Kung Fu both in the U.S. and abroad and frequently consults with other martial arts schools to establish and improve their black belt curriculum and train instructors.
